人は他人の不幸を喜ぶ潜在的な悪を内包する。人は他人の方が経済的に、身分的に、能力的に劣ると考えることで自分を慰める。だが、そういう風に思っている間は決して人は幸福になれない。幸福は共有しあうことで得られる。幸福は森鴎外の小説「高瀬舟」に出てくるように「足るを知る」ことでも得られる。Greed(欲得）に取り付かれた市場原理主義者の行く末は見えた。どんなに高級なシャンペインをがぶ飲みしようと空しさは消えないだろう。全世界の人々が多かれ少なかれこの病に取り付かれてしまっていた。過度な欲望だ。無責任な欲望だ。
メリーポビンス」の中で子供がもっていた小遣いタペンス（僅か２ペンスの硬貨）で大英帝国の銀行が取り付け騒ぎを起こす場面が心をよぎる。そのタペンスは鳩世話おばさんに預ければ一番有効に使われる。今、世界が懺悔している。「心を空しくして、幸せの意味をもう一度考えてみよう。
